OCC Devotionals Nov 16-20

We’re talking about Operation Christmas Child all this November on my Twitch stream, and building shoeboxes for needy children. (And you can help with our goal by building one online.) The devotionals this week come from several sources, and these are the descriptions and verses that go along with them.

Day 11: The devotional today is excerpted from a blog post by Bonnie Winters , who describes herself as “a Pastor’s Wife, Mom, Grandmom, writer, and crafter who loves God with all my heart!”. The original post is on the wordpess blog for Philipsburg Gospel Tabernacle .
Verse: 1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Day 12: This is an excerpt from a true story of escaping the Soviet Union, by Writer VLADIMIR PROKHNEVSKIY. The full story can be found at https://decisionmagazine.com/living-moment-moment-prayer/.
Verse: Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Day 13: Lays Halawe is a Sydney based blogger, whose website is https://misslays.com/. This is an excerpt from her full devotional, published on https://australasianchristianwriters.com/devotional-hands-and-feet/, which she wrote as a response to her trip with Operation Christmas child, where she was handing out shoeboxes to children in Chile.
Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

Maria here! I just wanted to add this verse: 1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.” The important parts of “the body” aren’t just the pastors and super-spiritual roles. Helping is a gift! Administration is a gift! Whatever God has called you to do, and given you an ability to do…might just be your gift.

Day 14: Today’s devotional is excerpted from a longer post by writer HEATHER C. KING from her blog ROOM TO BREATHE. The full post can be found at: https://heathercking.org/tag/operation-christmas-child/
Verse: Luke 10:21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

Day 15: Today’s story is by writer Raymond Maher, taken from a compilation of his weekly newspaper Faith column, “Neighborly Advice According To Ed.” https://www.accordingtoed.com/operation-christmas-child/ . The title is “It Is More Blessed To Give Than Receive”.
Verse: 1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
