Earlier this week, I was choosing songs for Sunday’s church service. It will be on Valentine’s Day, and although our church doesn’t usually do anything special for holidays other than Easter and Christmas, I thought celebrating God’s love for us on Valentine’s Day seemed appropriate. Beyond choosing songs about God’s love, I thought I might decorate a little, so I ordered a ream of red cardstock, not really knowing for sure how I’d use it. (Red is also good for Christmas, so I knew it wouldn’t go to waste.) Then Thursday morning I got an email asking me if I could teach Sunday school. It’s a good thing I have all that red paper! I decided I’ll have the kids make and receive Valentines from God – with words straight from His Word, the Bible.
There are many, many verses about God’s love in the Bible…and many more about how WE should love God and love one another. Here are 3 of the “Valentines from God” verses I’ve found. What are your favorite verses about love?
I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3
19 I will make you my wife forever,
showing you righteousness and justice,
unfailing love and compassion.
20 I will be faithful to you and make you mine,
and you will finally know me as the Lord.
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10
