handy yahoo tip – unit conversion

January 21st, 2010 . by maria

I checking Leiham’s homework, and found this handy tip. You don’t need to search for a unit conversion on Yahoo. You type what you have and then “to” and then the type you want, and the first result will be the answer. For example, type “5,000 mg to kg” and click search, and you get “5000 Milligrams = 0.005 Kilograms”.

Pretty handy!

awesomely free summer reading

June 10th, 2008 . by maria

The following are all now sans-copyright, freely available, no DRM, etc. offered by Gutenberg.org. Since they offer txt format, you can download it in a way that makes it readable on most platforms, and easy to transfer to another platform if you need to. Plus, the below were probably on some reading list you were supposed to read at some point anyway…besides being touchstones of our culture.

Homemade Ice Cream without the gadget

June 22nd, 2007 . by maria

I can’t belive I was almost suckered into buying that “Ice Cream Ball” from that catalog…

http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/icecream.html?trnstl=1

What You Need:

1 tablespoon Sugar
1/2 cup Milk or half & half
1/4 teaspoon Vanilla
6 tablespoons Rock salt
1 pint-size Ziploc plastic bag
1 gallon-size Ziploc plastic bag
Ice cubes

How To Make It

Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.
Shake until mixture is ice cream, about 5 minutes.
Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!
